June 21, 2022 JOLIET—Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announces Allen Gillaspie, 38, of Washington, was sentenced yesterday by Judge Bertani-Tomczak to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Home Invasion, a Class X felony. The 10-year sentence follows a jury trial that concluded on May 12, 2022.
On February 5, 2021, the victim was in her home in Joliet when she observed Gillaspie approaching her back door carrying an axe. Gillaspie proceeded to break down her back door with the axe and forcibly enter. The victim was able to escape during Gillaspie’s unlawful entry and call 911 for assistance.
“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.” Glasgow said. “She can never be compensated for the sheer terror that Gillaspie put her through. To her credit, her own resourcefulness prevented this from being more tragic.”
State’s Attorney Glasgow thanked ASAs Dan Egan and Amanda Tasker, Victim Witness Advocate Danette Pasdertz, and Information Technology Specialist Gus Martinucci for their hard work and dedication in this matter. Glasgow also thanked the Joliet Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
