JOLIET, IL – Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow announces that Marquel Jimerson, 29, of Joliet, was found guilty late Friday afternoon, August 16, 2024, of Robbery (a Class 2 felony), Intimidation of a Witness (a Class 3 felony), and three counts of Domestic Battery (Class 4 felonies) following a jury trial before Judge Art Smigielski. Sentencing and post-trial motions are scheduled for October 22, 2024.
On February 6, 2024, at approximately 11:25 p.m., victim, Dana Bass, 46, of Mazon, Illinois, reported to Joliet Police that her ex-boyfriend, Marquel Jimerson, had beaten her earlier in the night while she was staying at Harrah’s Casino in Joliet, Illinois.
Trial testimony established that as Bass left the hotel room, she observed Jimerson coming down the hotel hallway threatening to kill her. Jimerson forced his way inside the room, pushing Bass to the ground and punching her about the head and body. Jimerson asked where Bass kept her money and went through the victim’s purse, ultimately taking personal identification documents and cash.
An eyewitness to the attack who was inside the room told police after repeatedly striking the victim, Jimerson threatened both individuals that he would kill them if they contacted the police. The eyewitness was able to escape the room and contacted hotel security who responded to the room with assistance of the Joliet Police Department. Officers and hotel security entered the room and found the Jimerson hiding behind the door.
At the Joliet Police Station, officers observed injuries to the victim’s arms, face, head, and scratch marks on her back.
Marquel Jimmerson is eligible for an extended prison sentence of 3-14 years on the Robbery count, a mandatory prison sentence of 2-10 years for the Intimidation charge, and 1 to 6 years for the Domestic Battery counts.
State’s Attorney Glasgow thanks Assistant State’s Attorney’s Sarah West, Matt Dilday, and Art Guerra, Detective Stephen Boe of Joliet Police Department, Victim Witness Advocate Yesenia Almazan, and IT Specialist Braulio Guzman for their tireless effort to ensure this successful prosecution.
