Glasgow Announces Atilano Sentenced to 18 Years for Attempted First Degree Murder in 2022 Bolingbrook Stabbing
November 3, 2023
JOLIET— Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announces that Ivan Atilano, 37, of Bolingbrook, was sentenced today to 18 years in prison in the September 2022 stabbing of a Bolingbrook resident in his own home. He was sentenced by Circuit Judge Amy Bertani- Tomczak to 11 years in prison for Attempt Murder and 7 years for Home Invasion, to be served consecutively.
On September 22, 2022, Atilano tracked down ex-girlfriend Tatiana Guzman, who was sleeping at the Bolingbrook home of Felix Lopez. Guzman heard noises in the backyard and went outside to check at about midnight. Atilano was standing in the backyard and asked Guzman to speak with him. When she refused, Atilano became angry and pushed Guzman down a flight of stairs. Atilano then entered the home and jumped on Lopez. While Lopez was on the ground, Atilano stabbed him multiple times as Guzman yelled at Atilano to stop and tried hitting him in the back. Guzman’s 9-year-old daughter, who was also staying at the home at the time, saw the stabbing. Lopez’s sister heard the commotion and came out of her room to see what was wrong. Atilano then fled the scene, running up the stairs and out of the house. When officers arrived, they found Lopez in the basement with multiple stab wounds.
Although Atilano would have been entitled to 404 days credit for time in jail, he currently is serving a one-year sentence for contempt of court which reduces his credit for time served to 222 days. Atilano also faces a pending arson case, which was committed in the Adult Detention Facility, following his conviction on this case. His 18-year sentence will be served at 85 percent.
“Atilano brutally stabbed the victim after pushing her mother down a flight of stairs, as a little girl watched,” Glasgow said. “He will have plenty of time to reflect upon his viciousness and uncontrolled rage while sitting in a cold prison cell.”
States Attorney Glasgow thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys Christine Vukmir, Chelsea Selvey, and James Zanayed, Victim Witness Advocate Dannette Pasdertz, IT Specialist Robert Valiska, and the Bolingbrook Police Department for their hard work in this matter.
