JOLIET – Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow has announced that Edmund Kavanaugh, 53, of Elmhurst, has pled guilty to Continuing Financial Crimes Enterprise, a Class 1 Felony.  Kavanaugh is the owner of a home repair company that defrauded customers out of thousands of dollars by failing to complete agreed upon home repair projects, and writing checks to suppliers which he did not honor. He was sentenced February 4 by Circuit Judge Carmen Goodman to seven years in prison, and has been ordered to pay $42,215.94 in restitution.

“Kavanaugh is a textbook scam artist who has repeatedly defrauded victims out of their hard-earned money and engaged in various schemes so that his scams could continue,” Glasgow said. “It is about time that this con artist who has swindled victims throughout the Chicagoland area has received what he so richly deserves – time in prison.”

Kavanaugh’s home repair business, Goliath Construction, engaged in numerous schemes in which he would be hired for a home repair job and collect payment without completing the agreed-upon work.  He will receive 487 days of credit for time served.
