August 8, 2022 JOLIET—Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announces convicted felon, William McGuire Jr., 72, of Carol Stream was sentenced today by Judge Rippy to 25 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for one count of Home Invasion, a Class X felony and one count of Criminal Trespass to Residence, a Class 4 felony. The 25-year sentence follows a bench trial that began on December 6, 2021 and concluded February 15, 2022.

On September 28, 2016, the victim was in her home in Bolingbrook when she observed McGuire at her front door. When the victim opened the door, McGuire forced his way into her home with a weapon and grabbed her. The victim was able to free herself from McGuire’s grasp and run to a neighbor’s house to call 911.  During the entry, McGuire wore sunglasses, but was identified by the victim as the perpetrator with whom she had just observed at Jewel. Surveillance footage from Jewel was acquired showing McGuire at Jewel shortly before the attack.

As part of today’s sentencing hearing, the State flew in one of McGuire’s previous victim’s from Arizona who testified about the assault she suffered at the hands of the defendant back in 1973.

“William McGuire Jr. is an incredibly dangerous predator who made a violent entry into the victim’s home after following her from the grocery store.” Glasgow said. “She miraculously escaped after a life and death struggle. This sentence guarantees he will never again prey upon innocent women as he stares at the dark, cold walls of his prison cell.”

State’s Attorney Glasgow thanked ASAs Adam Capelli and Chelsea Selvey, and Victim Witness Advocate, Danette Pasdertz for their considerable work and commitment to justice in this case. Glasgow also thanked lead detective, Michael Harvey and the Bolingbrook Police Department.
