County-Wide Initiative Addressing Animal Cruelty & Neglect
Will County State’s Attorney Glasgow established the League of Extraordinary Canines & Friends as a county-wide initiative, bringing together law enforcement professionals, community members, animal control agencies, veterinarians, humane societies, rescue groups, and all who care about the humane treatment of our animal companions – to work together in addressing the serious issue of animal cruelty and neglect.
The League of Extraordinary Canines & Friends is focused on:
- Aggressively prosecuting those who violate the law, and developing protocols for effective prosecution.
- Advocating on behalf of our animal companions.
- Ensuring counseling is provided to offenders to help in their reform and rehabilitation.
- Developing an organized network throughout Will County to quickly respond and assist in instances involving animal abuse or neglect.
- Developing uniform and comprehensive animal abuse county and municipal ordinances that interface with state statutes; so that less serious cases can be handled effectively at their level of enforcement, thereby engaging all levels of government in this important effort.
State’s Attorney James Glasgow has purchased K9s for police departments throughout Will County, to assist in their law enforcement duties and help officers connect with the community, at zero cost to taxpayers. Glasgow pays for the K9s, along with their specialized training and transport equipment, with money from criminals involved in illegal narcotic drug seizures and asset forfeitures, at no cost to taxpayers.
These special K9s help take drug dangerous dealers off our streets and assist with many life-saving situations involving trauma and mental health challenges. The dogs also help prevent the scourge of drug use by helping schools monitor the presence of drugs and provide an opportunity for intervention and prevention.
